The pseudoscience “experiment” in this case is only barely discernable from a real scientific experiment. Like the “egg only stands up on a supermoon”, it feels like a real observation about the world - like it would be understandable that an ancient philosopher reasoning self-consistently that “hexagons appear in honey, therefore honey has”, and it would be very reasonable for someone in the modern day to be duped into a dangerous line of reasoning as a result.
