finally spent the $200 to replace the battery. Need to take a note of what I got for later.
the scissor jack that came with the car failed the last time I tried to change the tires - screw seized and stripped. Probably would have survived if I greased it.
I bought a bottle jack, but stupidly didn’t realize that this car isn’t lifted like my dad’s old truck, because it’s a sort of monocoque, frame-less design. Instead, it has to be lifted at specific points in the center (which lots of folks have a hard time reaching), or, as the OEM jack does, there are reinforced parts near the so-called pinch welds on the sides of the body.
Called around for the right jack. CanTire said the jack adapter for the pinch welds would be a dealership item. There are also rubber jack pads that some people suggest work. Forget it. Bought a $29 scissor jack from Princess Auto. Worked fine for the job, inconsequential damage to the pinch welds. Two layers of cardboard underneath to protect the concrete.
Forgot to unset the torque wrench before storing it, which is best practice.
Your Auto Pak policy will cover any unregistered vehicles - including motorcycles and snowmobiles - you’re storing for a short period of time.
Vehicles that become unregistered for a short term are covered by your Auto Pak policy if the vehicle is in storage, (as long as the damage doesn’t happen while they’re in use or operation) with a few exceptions.
obviously I’m coming at this from a very privileged perspective, but just dealing
it seems like SGI puts a lot of effort into minimizing the ‘human factors’ mistakes that can be made with insurance and just overall delivering a quality service. I’m really impressed overall with how the administrivia is set up in this province. everything down to the immunization record, etc.
Whelp, I hit one of those externalities. Didn’t take 44 bus, took 45 for many days, double the walking. Have an overuse injury of ankle, seriously distracting me from my work.
from Shoppers’ Drug Mart. I read online that it’s risky to brace an injury - could end up with permanent damage. I used it for a few days until it settled down.
I brought the car out of hibernation, having not used it for many months. Put a permit on it. Stutpidly I hadn’t disconnected the battery, so this battery got deep discharged for the second time. It was at 6.5V.
I’m not nearly as on top of things as I may think. $250 battery negates some ROI of taking bus.
Suprisingly, after hooking up the charger for day, it recovered, and no real issues starting. Still will want to replace it later.
I had checked the tires recently and they were psi, so I felt fine driving it to the gas station to get filled. Once I left the parkade and drove around a few clicks, all the tires dropped to like 20 psi! Filled em all up to 38.
